Voyaging Under Power by Robert Beebe,

In World War II, aboard the aircraft carrier Saratoga, Captain Robert Beebe dreamed of one day retiring long distance learning and cruising the world in a small boat. At that time world cruisers voyaged exclusively in sailboats. But sailboats are confined to narrow lanes of predominantly favorable winds - the same sea lanes sailors have used for centuries. Those famous tradewinds also turn most oceans into one-way streets, long distance learning and miss some areas of the globe entirely. And sailing in the trades can be difficult long distance learning and unpredictable, with dead calms or howling gales as likely as a steady 15-knot breeze. Now, under the able pen of world cruiser Jim Leishman, Beebe's classic Voyaging Under Power has received its first complete overhaul. This thoroughly revised third edition is one of the most anxiously awaited boating books of the 1990s.
